UBC Journalism school seeks Sessional Lecturer
The University of British Columbia Graduate School of Journalism,
Vancouver, Canada seeks to appoint a Sessional Lecturer during the 2015
Winter session (September 1, 2015 to April 30, 2016) to teach up to 18
credits in its innovative graduate program, complementing the School’s
core strengths in digital, international, science, environment and
public policy journalism as listed on its website: www.journalism.ubc.ca.
A Master’s degree in Journalism, mass communications, or a related
discipline is preferred; however, applicants with a Bachelor’s degree
plus exceptional professional and teaching skills may also be considered.
We seek applicants who have college-level experience in teaching
multimedia journalism; professional experience of working in a newsroom
as a reporter and/or editor, in addition to strong professional
experience in producing stories for multiple platforms; and demonstrable
ability to function effectively in a university environment.
The successful candidate is expected to provide high quality journalism
instruction; possess strong organizational skills; have experience and
knowledge of social media platforms and approaches to audience
engagement; possess strong digital journalism skills, including
knowledge of content management systems and tools for mobile and
multimedia reporting and production; and be equipped to teach news
gathering, reporting and editing across platforms. In addition, the
successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to a student-centred
approach to teaching through inquiry- based and cooperative learning and
experience of working collaboratively in a team.
This position is subject to final budgetary approval and will be
governed by UBC’s Agreement on Conditions of Appointment for Sessional
Faculty Members
