JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: DIGITAL MEDIA UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI
The University of Cincinnati invites applications for two academic positions within the newly formed Digital Media Collaborative (DMC) (see web site at http://www.artsci.uc.edu/departments/interdisciplinary-studies/digital-media-collaborative.html) :

The DMC was launched by a network of faculty members within the McMicken College of Arts & Sciences (Communication, Journalism, Film & Visual Media Studies, and English), the College-Conservatory of Music (Electronic Media and Performing Arts), and College of Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning (Art, Architecture and Design), and its mission is to develop, coordinate, integrate, promote and support research, academic courses and programs, and creative work, as well as other related products and outlets pertaining to digital media at UC. These new positions will support the integration of ongoing efforts across academic units as part of the DMC and put UC at the forefront in the fields of digital media and visual studies. With our mix of dedicated faculty researchers, creative scholars and professionals, spirit of collaboration and innovation, and passion for free expression and public service – all within a premier, public, urban research university – we believe that the University of Cincinnati has all of the intellectual components necessary to shape the future of digital media. These positions will integrate digital media studies across its campus, and greatly enhance the research synergies that have begun across the units, while expanding the community-based digital media research, education and training opportunities for its students. As such, UC will emerge as an international leader in the field of digital media studies.

(1) Director of the DMC (associate professor/professor; tenure track)
Position 1 (215UC0378): Director of the DMC (associate professor/professor; tenure track). The Director of the DMC will be a senior hire at the rank of associate professor or professor (tenure track) with national/international visibility in the area of digital media and/or visual studies and will be responsible for the establishment and implementation of the mission of the DMC from within each of the three founding colleges (McMicken College of Arts & Sciences, College-Conservatory of Music, and College of Design, Art, Architecture and Planning). As such, the director will oversee and encourage cross-collaboration of faculty, academic programs, and community partners in the creation, distribution and analysis of research and creative digital media works.

In developing the DMC, the director will be expected to identify and offer undergraduate courses (current and new) that promote digital media literacy among UC students; identify and offer experiential learning opportunities in digital media (original creative productions, internships, practicum, field work, capstone) for undergraduate majors and graduates students in units within the DMC; support existing undergraduate and graduate certificate and degree programs within the DMC through faculty instruction, advising, and mentoring, while also seeking ways to integrate course offerings across colleges and academic programs; and develop new undergraduate and graduate professional certificate and degree programs among units within the DMC, with a focus on trans-disciplinary, cross-college collaboration.

The Director should be a highly motivated innovator and collaborator with a passion for consensus building among diverse stakeholders. The Director should develop and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders to promote and enhance the work and visibility of the DMC. The director will work with the DMC faculty members to determine goals and priorities of the DMC, and provide a platform to unite research and production work when possible. As the DMC embodies both theoretical and practical aspects of digital media studies, the Director will oversee the collaborative efforts of these areas to facilitate interdisciplinary research, creative work, faculty development, student learning, and grant- seeking and other funding opportunities. Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D., M.F.A. or equivalent terminal degree and an active program of research and/or creative scholarship in some area of digital media and/or visual studies that is suitable for tenure.

(2) Assistant Professor (tenure track)
Position 2 (215UC0270): Assistant Professor (tenure track). An assistant professor should have scholarly or creative expertise in areas of new media, digital communication, or interactive technologies. The ideal candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in digital media content, theories and/or production, as well as other areas of interest. Candidates are expected to have an M.F.A., Ph.D. or equivalent degree in electronic media studies, communication, electronic arts, digital media design or a related field prior to the fall of 2015, a record that suggests scholarly or creative promise in the area of digital studies or visual studies, and university teaching experience.
