Lecturers in Communications - Journalism and Multimedia (3 posts)

Fixed Term Contracts of up to 5 Years



Introduction



The School of Communications in Dublin City University is Ireland’s largest and leading school of journalism, multimedia and communications studies and is currently recruiting for three Lecturer posts from 1 September 2015. Production expertise in Broadcast and Mobile Journalism, or in Visual Communication and Design will be a factor in short-listing and final selection.



The School of Communications:



The School of Communications has three undergraduate programmes, six taught postgraduate programmes and a PhD programme. The successful candidate will be expected to play a role in the development and delivery of the School’s taught programmes and in the identification and delivery of new programmes in their specialist area. The School offers excellent opportunities for candidates to teach within their own area of research specialisation and to supervise PhD candidates.



The School is committed to high quality research and supports its staff in such work. We have led research programmes supported by the Irish Research Council, the EU and other national and international funders.



The Successful Candidates



The successful applicant will:



·       Be able to instil exceptional production skills in our students.

·       Have a strong research profile.

·       Contribute to the management and organisation of the School.

· Be self-motivated, flexible and adaptable in working across different areas of specialism.

Applicants for the post must hold an honours degree in a relevant discipline, should be qualified to a post-graduate level and have completed a doctoral qualification in the field. The successful candidate will also have a minimum of three years relevant experience, with a record of high quality university-level teaching. In addition, the successful candidate should have a proven research background in the area and will be committed to publishing in the highest quality peer-reviewed journals and/ or with high quality book publishers and to securing external research funding supports. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute significantly to curriculum development, teaching and administrative activity in the School of Communications, across all levels and on a variety of programmes. Production expertise in broadcast and digital journalism or in visual communication/design/animation and an ability to teach both undergraduate and postgraduate communication fields will be a significant advantage and a factor in short-listing and final selection.

Salary Scales:

Lecturer above bar:     €50,159 - €76,891



Lecturer below bar:      €41,502 - €51,724

€37,352 - €46,552*

* Applies to new entrants to the public sector after 01 January 2011.



Appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
