I'm not a prophet or a stone aged man, just a mortal with potential of a
superman. I'm living on.
Coming to Australia in 2015, ACMI presents David Bowie Is, the acclaimed
global exhibition from the Victoria and Albert Museum. As part of this
ground-breaking multi-media experience will be the conference, The
Stardom and Celebrity of David Bowie 1965—2015, reflecting upon his
cultural and artistic significance through the most important frames.
The conference will be held at the ACMI in Melbourne on the 17th and
18th July 2015 and will include talks and presentations in the
exhibition space.
For exhibition details see: https://www.acmi.net.au//bowie
David Bowie’s cultural and artistic currency is presently at an all time
high with his first album in almost a decade, The Next Day (2013),
reviewed as one of the greatest rock comebacks ever (Gill, 2013); the
release of a series of portentous music videos that recall and reflect
upon his artistic career; the record-breaking David Bowie Is global
exhibition tour, and; the recently released ‘Sue (Or In A Season Of
Crime)’ from his forthcoming compilation album spanning 50 years of
recorded work on Nothing Has Changed (November, 2014).
Against this energetic background, the conveners regard this to be a
perfect moment to consider and reflect upon the cultural and artistic
significance of and on ‘David Bowie’ in rock, pop, film, art, fashion
and performance.
