*European Media Ethics Congress 2012*

*1^st Edition*

*“Professional Integrity and Accountability in New Media”*

*September 27-28, 2012 ▪ Bucharest, Romania*

*_CALL FOR PAPERS_***

The transition from classic to new media requires professionals in the
field not only internalize new technical skills, but also to reconsider
new moral challenges and update of their ethical norms. The recent
ethical and legal obstacles arising due to the emergence of new media
stimulate an increasing number of press organizations to reassess
particular codes of conduct / codes of professional ethics and set up
new rules for the media as a whole. The new types of regulations
emphasize, for instance, the use and misuse of online sources; the
specific rules of the digital communication between journalists and
readers; the internal data that journalists are allowed to make public
in social media, or the congruency between the values of the media
organizations and the personal opinions expressed by journalists using
alternative media (blogs, Facebook, Twitter).

The recent context of media digitalization brings into question the
opportunity to adjust and update the present organizational and national
codes and regulations in the media, taking into account challenges such
as: increased speed-reaction in digital news reporting, more frequent
exchanges between online journalists and readers, competition with the
alternative news gatherers (blogs, "citizen journalism" sites), but also
increase in intellectual property theft.

Given this context, the conference aims to discuss the opportunity of
imposing a new set of principles and rules for online journalism as part
of the EU governance.

*Main Topics*

The papers proposed for this edition can cover any of the following topics:
