*Global Journalism Day, Örebro University, Sweden, 15 May, 2012. *

Media and Communication Studies and the International Master Program Global Journalism at Örebro University, Sweden, are organizing *Global Journalism Day* (http://gjday.org/) on May 15, 2012 to bring attention to the growing significance of studying and practicing global journalism in today's globalizing and fast-paced world, where communication is at the core of the struggle to maintain as well as obtain democracy, in particular nations and globally. The intention of the event is to bring scholars and practitioners together to discuss the concept of global journalism from theoretical as well as practical angles. We offer among other things three pre-organized panels: What is Global Journalism?, Global Journalism and Climate Change and "Global Journalism and Gender.

_Confirmed speakers are: _

Mona Eltahawy  renowned New York based journalist and columnist, speaker on Arab, Muslim and gender issues, one of the public faces of the Egyptian revolution, recently named among 150 women who shake the world (http://www.thedailybeast.com/features/150-women-who-shake-the-world.html).

Einar Thorsen  Senior Lecturer in Journalism and Communication, Bournemouth University, UK, expert on citizen journalism and civic engagement.

Nassanga Goretti  Associate Professor in Mass Communication, Makerere University, Uganda, expert on environment and risk communication, member of the Africa network for environment journalists.

Ulrika Olausson  Associate Professor in Media and Communication Studies, Örebro University, Sweden, expert on national/transnational issues in relation to media and environmental risk.

Peter Berglez - Associate Professor in Media and Communication Studies, Örebro University, Sweden, expert on theoretical and practical aspects of global journalism.

Karwan Tahir  Reporter and producer, Swedish Radio, with a wide range of local and international experiences.

Walid Al-Saqaf  Doctoral student in Media and Communication Studies, Örebro University, Sweden, Program director of the Global Journalism master program, expert on new media, censorship and democracy.

Our international master students also contribute, among other things in a relay addressing specific challenges for global journalism in the parts of the world where they come from.
