McLuhan Galaxy. Understanding Media, today. Barcelona, May 23-25, 2011 IMPORTANT UPDATE: Due to various requests, the deadline for extended abstracts submission has been extended to January 17th, 2011. Visit http://www.mcluhangalaxy.net The International Conference McLuhan Galaxy â??Understanding Media, Todayâ??, Barcelona 2011, is going to take place in Barcelona on May 23-25, 2011 to celebrate the birth centenary of the Canadian thinker Marshall McLuhan. The event is organised by Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3), Universitat Oberta de Catalunya / Open University of Catalonia and Faculty of Communication, University Pompeu Fabra, with the collaboration of CCCB-Lab, Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona. Structured into thematic sessions, the conferences, presentations and round tables will count on the presence of international researchers such as Manuel Castells, Eric McLuhan, Derrick de Kerckhove, Robert K. Logan, Javier Echeverria, Alejandro Piscitelli, Ursula Heise, Javier Díaz Noci, Carlos A. Scolari and Bruce Powe, among others. Call for papers The McLuhan Galaxy Conference invites the submission of extended abstracts related to the conference themes (800 words ca / 2 pages). Authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to submit full papers between 5.000 and 6.000 words. There are 5 main tracks: 1. Mcluhan in the Global Village (McLuhan, Torontoâ??s School, Media Ecology, media laws, media studies, television, broadcasting, McLuhanism, etc.) 2. Education beyond the book (school/media, digital natives, digital literacy, the Gutenberg parentheses, edupunk, invisible learning, reading devices, etc.) 3. Social media, networks and life (self-organization, emergence, social media, collaborative web, wikipedia, user generated content, tagging, folksonomy, identity, privacy, control, etc.) 4. Extensions and sensorial dimension (extensions, new sensorial paradigms, human computer interaction, interfaces, new screens, mobile media, ubiquitous computing, data-visualization, art, wearable computing, augmented reality, virtual reality, etc.) 5.
