Post Doctoral Fellowship in Media and Cultural Studies
Department of Global Communication - The American University of Paris

As part of a multi-year initiative funded by A.W. Mellon Foundation, the American University of Paris currently invites applications for a post-doctoral fellowship, beginning Fall 2011. Hosted in the Department of Global Communication, the fellow will contribute to the building of international joint programs in the areas of media and communication studies, urban studies and comparative literature with Eugene Lang College ? The New School University. The fellow?s research interests should coincide with the Department of Global Communication?s mandate to study media in a transnational context.

During their time at AUP, fellows will have the opportunity to conduct research and participate in the university?s scholarly community. They will also be expected to teach one course each semester in the department of Global Communication related to issues of: cultural diversity; urban environments; or media technology. It is expected that the fellow will look for innovative ways to incorporate on-site telepresence facilities and internet-based learning resources into their teaching in order to allow for students in both New York and Paris to be involved in courses. Finally, they will be expected to contribute to the development of the joint program between Eugene Lang College and AUP through the organization of a regular research seminar/speaker series for faculty and graduates that may involve co-ordinating projects with a post-doctoral researcher based at Eugene Lang.

Successful candidates will need to have a Ph.D. (granted no earlier than 2008) in Communication Studies, or a related discipline, as well as demonstrate the potential for high-quality, innovative, interdisciplinary research at the international level. Interested applicants should include in their application: · A letter of interest demonstrating your academic qualifications, research and teaching interests, and suitability for the position;
·     A curriculum vitae;
·    Two sample syllabi for courses the fellow would be willing to teach;
·    Three letters of recommendation.

Applications must be sent by email to: <(comsearch /at/ aup.htm)>(comsearch /at/ aup.fr)

Review of applications will begin February 15, 2010 and continue until the position is filled. This position coincides with a parallel fellowship at Eugene Lang College ? The New School for Liberal Arts. Applicants are welcome to apply for both positions, but should indicate this in their letter of interest.
