[ecrea] Global Communications Class, Winter 2010

The University of Missouri - St. Louis is offering an internet based
course beginning in January.  Global Communications (MS 3356) is an
online (3 credit) course offered for both credit and non-credit.  The
Spring 2010 course will begin on January 19, 2010 and it will run for 16
weeks.  Global Communications consists of weekly videos, readings and
discussions concerning transnational media conglomerates and their
impact on culture, language, and society.  Global advertising, UNESCO,
CNN, BBC, Euronews, WSIS, ICANN, Al Jazeera and the internet are also
discussed in detail.  The textbook is Global Communication: Theories,
Stakeholders, and Trends (Blackwell Publishers) by Tom McPhail who also
teaches the course.  Students from anywhere in the world - with internet
access - may enroll.
