Communication and Citizenship: Rethinking Crisis and Change

Citizenship continues to be practiced, to evolve, and to be
qualified by the mix of media, religion & culture, usually at
implicit levels. It is not always clear, though, how religion serves
in a communicative role, especially in the mass media. The IAMCR
Media, Religion and Culture Working Group invites proposals for
papers exploring clarifications of the religious as a context for
civil participation and responsibility both more generally and also
focused on the conference theme: "Communication and Citizenship:
Rethinking Crisis and Change".
As issues concerning the specifically communicative character of
religion, including its interfaith realizations, have often been
central to recent working group discussions, presenters may find
such matters appropriate areas for exploration (both descriptively
but especially in methodologically adequate ways). However, all
proposals for quality papers treating media in central religious
communication processes, from community building to proclamation,
from art to expressions of faith, apologetic and propagandistic
media usage and reception within the wide field of Media, Culture
and Religion are welcome. In other words, all approaches are welcome
for proposed papers, provided they offer good quality, interesting,
novel perspectives.
Submission Information
Abstracts/proposals (300-500 words) must be sent to the
co-ordinators of the MRC working group through the conference
website by January 31, 2010. Include title, abstract, author name,
institutional affiliation, and email address with your submission.
You will be informed whether your proposal has been accepted by
March 15, 2010. Full papers are due April 30, 2010, again through
the official conference website.
