[ecrea] European Media Policy - newsletter NORDICOM

Thu Oct 22 19:09:02 GMT 2009

Welcome to European Media Policy, a newsletter from NORDICOM providing an up-date on policy developments at the European level.

The No. 2, 2009 issue gives an overview of some main media events. Some of them are listed here:

- Telecom Package: Compromise on Internet Users' Rights Likely

At the end of September a conciliation procedure was launched to resolve the remaining differences between the European Parliament and the EU Council of Ministers on the Telecom Package, the Union's future legislative framework for electronic communication. It was decided to keep the focus of the conciliation narrow; discussions will concentrate on the controversial amendment 138 regarding Internet users' rights. Most likely some kind of compromise will be found on this issue.

- Swedish EU Presidency Prepares Future ICT Policy

On 9-10 November the Swedish EU Presidency will hold a conference in Visby, Sweden, to discuss the European Union's future ICT policy. Invited to the meeting are delegations from the Member States, the European Commission, the European Parliament and stakeholder organisations.
