Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

The School of Arts and Social Sciences has a Southeast Asian focus while bearing in mind the vital relationship between the local and the global. The PhD program offered in the Faculty of Arts enables students to complete extensive, Independent research under the supervision of an expert academic. The degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) by 100 per cent research is available in a range of disciplines and is taken by submission of a thesis on a topic ? decided in consultation with staff in the students? chosen discipline ? approved by the school.



Requirements  / Guidelines.



1.      Complete fee exemption will be given to successful PHD candidates.

2. Monash university will provide a monthly scholarship / stipend of 2000 RM (28 thousand Indian rupees / month)

3. The entire visa processing and entry permit will be done by the university itself.

4. The candidate can do the full time PHD in the School of Arts & Social Sciences at the international Campus in Kuala Lumpur at Malaysia.

5. The maximum time period for the completion of the thesis and availability of scholarship will be for a period of three years. Extension for six months will be granted on special circumstances.

6. On request the application forms and guidelines will be provided to the respective students by email.

7. The basic requirement is a master?s degree that entailed work, normally including a significant research component, at least equivalent to an honors degree. / The candidate must possess a master?s degree in any subject under Arts and Social Sciences with a good merit above 60%.

8. The medium of instruction for candidates in the respective previous studies for under graduation and masters degree must be in English only

9. The candidate must possess good command in English language, both in writing and speaking.

10. The candidate must submit three detailed reference reports in the official letter heads from the respective lecturers/ professors who had taught the candidate previously. The referees must certify that the candidate studied all the degrees in English and posses high academic brilliance. The referees in the report must recommend in giving an admission for the candidate to do the PHD research.

11. The candidate must submit a detailed research proposal along with the duly filled application forms.

12. The successful candidate will be in a one year probationary admission. On the completion of the first year the candidate must submit a complete review of literature chapter and a detailed proposal and draft plan for the final thesis. Then his / her admission will be confirmed. Every year the candidates have to file a progress report.

13. The candidates have to work in the research supervisors/ guides research projects as a contributing team member / write scholarly research journal articles in the high rated and refereed research journal s and present research papers in the international academic seminars and conferences.

14. The successful candidates will be provide with all the IT and library facilities of the Monash university with an office room and a 24 hrs online PC.

15. The successful candidate may have to present seminars on the progress on their research and to handle tutorial classes occasionally.
