Research Associate (Michael Klinger Papers)
Faculty of Creative Arts, University of the West of England (Bristol)
Applications are invited for a full-time
post-doctoral Research Associate (RA) for a
two-year AHRC-funded project to work with the
Principal Investigator, Dr Andrew Spicer, to
archive, catalogue and interpret the Michael
Klinger papers that have been deposited in the
Faculty of Creative Arts at the University of
the West of England. The RA will organise and
catalogue the papers, help select and digitise
key documents to be made available online and
interview (with Dr Spicer) surviving creative
personnel who worked with Klinger. S/he will
also conduct contextual research in film
journals and literature (mainly at the British
Film Institute Library) and archival material
held by the British Board of Film Classifiers.
S/he will also liaise with other relevant
persons and institutions including the project
partners, the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns =
"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"
/>School of Creative Arts, Film and Media at the
University of Portsmouth, organise a mid-point
symposium exploring the role of the producer in
the post-war British film industry and
co-author, with Dr Spicer, an authoritative
monograph on KlingerÂ?s career. S/he will be
expected to contribute to the research culture
in the Faculty and to give conference papers and presentations.
Applicants need to have completed a doctorate in
a relevant area, have a reasonable knowledge of
post-war British cinema, particularly the 1970s,
and have familiarity with the use and interpretation of archive material.

The salary will be on Grade F in the range £26,391 - £29,704 per annum.
The project will begin on 1 January 2010.
