Victoria University of Wellington is committed to the future =20
development of its creative
disciplines. This exciting new role is regarded as key to realising a =20=

vision for the study of
film that is consistent with it being situated in the creative capital =20=

city, Wellington, and
that builds on the Film Programme=92s existing strengths in integrating =20=

practical creative
work with theoretical study.  The Professor/Associate Professor will =20
provide leadership in
teaching and research and will play a key role in the establishment of =20=

an exciting new
venture =96 a proposed Centre for New Cinema and an interdisciplinary =20=

Master of Cinema
Arts degree.

The city of Wellington =96 the arts centre of New Zealand =96 is home to =
a =20
thriving theatre
scene, Toi Whakaari the New Zealand Drama School, the International =20
Institute of Modern
Letters, the National Library, the New Zealand Film Archive, Te Papa =20
the National
Museum, Weta Digital, Park Road Post, and the New Zealand Film =20
Commission. Victoria
University=92s specialist film programme offers a wide range of =20
innovative theoretical and
practical courses. The University seeks to build on these strengths =20
through the creation of
this new senior position.

The successful candidate will be expected to have a PhD in film =20
studies or a related
discipline, substantial tertiary teaching experience, and an =20
established international
research profile. Applications are also welcome from appropriately =20
qualified people with
film-making experience. The ability to build positive working =20
relationships within the
discipline, to work in an interdisciplinary context, and to develop =20
productive relationships
with government and industry partners is also important.
