Professor/Associate Professor in Film (A246-09Z)
School of English, Film, Theatre and Media Studies, Faculty of Humanities and Social
Sciences, Victoria University of Wellington

Location Kelburn Campus, Wellington
Term of Contract Permanent
Closing Date 24 September 2009

Victoria University of Wellington is committed to the future development of its creative disciplines. This exciting new role is regarded as key to realising a vision for the study of film that is consistent with it being situated in the creative capital city, Wellington, and that builds on the Film Programme?s existing strengths in integrating practical creative work with theoretical study. The Professor/Associate Professor will provide leadership in teaching and research and will play a key role in the establishment of an exciting new venture a proposed Centre for New Cinema and an interdisciplinary Master of Cinema
Arts degree.

The city of Wellington the arts centre of New Zealand is home to a thriving theatre scene, Toi Whakaari the New Zealand Drama School, the International Institute of Modern Letters, the National Library, the New Zealand Film Archive, Te Papa the National Museum, Weta Digital, Park Road Post, and the New Zealand Film Commission. Victoria University?s specialist film programme offers a wide range of innovative theoretical and practical courses. The University seeks to build on these strengths through the creation of
this new senior position.

The successful candidate will be expected to have a PhD in film studies or a related discipline, substantial tertiary teaching experience, and an established international research profile. Applications are also welcome from appropriately qualified people with film-making experience. The ability to build positive working relationships within the discipline, to work in an interdisciplinary context, and to develop productive relationships
with government and industry partners is also important.
