Salary: £27,043 per annum incl. London Weighting
Fixed-term contract for 12 months.

The School of Engineering and Design is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant/Fellow to work on a project entitled 'TOTeM: Tales of Things and Electronic Memory', funded by the EPSRC's Digital Economy Programme.

The TOTeM research project explores social memory in the emerging culture of the Internet of Things. This term is used to describe the increasingly popular use of digital tagging technologies to track physical objects in the real world. The research will develop methods to support the conservation of social memory for the benefit of cultural, business and design communities. The research consortium is led by the Edinburgh College of Art and consists of investigators at Brunel University, University College London, University of Dundee, and the University of Salford.

The Research Assistant/Fellow based at Brunel University will be instrumental in the initial phase of promoting the project and generating users for the TOTeM platform, and the subsequent gathering and analysis of user data.

Applicants must have the following attributes:
? A PhD degree (or close to completion) in Film Studies, Visual Anthropology, or a related subject with a strong emphasis on the moving image in a social science context, or a practice-based PhD in Photography or Ethnographic Film. ? Experience in the independent gathering and qualitative analysis of ethnographic data.
? Experience of video production and post-production.
? Excellent organisational skills, high self-motivation with effective communication and interpersonal skills. ? Competence in compiling reports, presentation of research findings, and drafting research papers for publication.
