Sat Jun 13 10:56:06 GMT 2009

Dear colleagues,

?Kurgu? Online International Journal of Communication Studies continues its tradition of academic journal publication having lasted many years now on the Internet, on a non-geographical environment. The topic of our first issue which will be published on October 1, 2009 in Turkish-English is ?Imagining the Alternative: The Strategies to Cope with Mainstream Media Practices?.

Dr. John Downing and Dr. Sevda Alankuº will serve as leading-editors of the first issue.

For further details on the Journal and call for papers:

Kurgu, first published in 1979 by the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Anadolu University (Turkey), is a highly credited academic journal in the field of communication/media studies in Turkey. Since its very first volumes, Kurgu has offered communication scholars a credible source of articles with rigorous academic standards. Since 2005, we have suspended regular print version of Kurgu. After a couple of years of silence, the journal is switching from print to online-only and we are proud to announce that from October 2009, the first electronic version of Kurgu Online Journal of Communication Studies will be available free to all subscribers. The back volumes of the journal will also be available on the journal?s web-site via full-text searchable PDFs.

Kurgu Online International Journal of Communication Studies is a bilingual (Turkish and English), international, peer-reviewed journal. The scope of the journal includes, but is not limited to, scholarly works on media and communications. The journal covers all aspects of communication e.g. communication theories, journalism, cinema & television, critical studies, new information technologies, radio, cyber-space, media ethnography, distance education, photography, global media, visual communication, public relations, advertising, organizational communication, etc. By providing a large spectrum of methodological and theoretical perspectives to its readers, Kurgu Online International Journal of Communication Studies aims to be the major source and a key interface for high standard, interdisciplinary work, challenging the age-old, traditional dichotomies (e.g. qualitative methods vs. quantitative methods; political-economy vs. cultural studies).

Within this context, we welcome papers from a broad range of topics and interdisciplinary themes, touching on issues related to media and communications, as well as book-reviews and conference/seminar reports.
