[ecrea] Journal of Critical Globalisation Studies: Inaugural Edition Call For Papers

Thu May 14 12:41:03 GMT 2009

CALL FOR PAPERS

Power and Identity in a Global Networked Society

A ONE DAY WORKSHOP MARKING THE INAUGURATION OF THE NEW E-JOURNAL: <http://www.criticalglobalisation.com/>JOURNAL OF CRITICAL GLOBALISATION STUDIES

3rd, September 2009

At

Royal Holloway, University of London
In Conjunction with the annual conference of the Global Studies Association- Challenging globalization: new perspectives, alternative visions, emerging agendas

Is it necessary to move beyond discrete categorisations to a more fluid understanding of global processes, which involve multiple actors from the micro to the macro level? Or should we not be too quick to ignore established power structures and their implications for global political, economic and social processes? In terms of the new networks of global society, we want to explore what their aims are, who are involved, what is their influence, are they democratic and who is excluded?

The workshop will mark the inauguration of a new fully peer reviewed e-journal: The Journal of Critical Globalisation Studies (<http://www.criticalglobalisation.com/>www.criticalglobalisation.com) to be published twice yearly. The Journal of Critical Globalisation Studies seeks to be the first to bring theoretical and critical reflection to bear on dominant (mainstream) debates within the study of globalization. Contributors of the best and most appropriate papers submitted will be invited to upgrade their workshop paper to a full academic article for submission to the journal, or format it for the 'Polemics' (short essays) section of the journal. Journal submissions will go through a further blind peer-review process and will have to be submitted by July 1st, 2009.

We therefore invite 300 word paper abstracts, relating to the themes listed below, from postgraduate researchers and academics. The papers will be presented in distinct panels corresponding to the following two overarching themes:

Resistance to globalisation: In what ways new global networks both resist and promote globalisation? Is globalisation being resisted, or rather re-negotiated, or are 'resistances' in fact accelerating globalisation?

Collapsing borders? This panel will focus upon the concept of borders and their changing nature within a contemporary 'global' setting. It will also consider the implications of media, communications, civil society and networks across the main themes of the workshop.

Deadline for abstracts: 10th June, 2009

Please send a paper title, abstract (of no more than 300 words), and your institutional affiliation to <mailto:(abstracts /at/ criticalglobalisation.com)>(abstracts /at/ criticalglobalisation.com). Some limited funds will be available to cover paper givers' expenses. For any further information, please contact Yajai Bunnag, Nathan Coombs, Anthony Cooper, Christopher Perkins or Pepijn van Houwelingen (journal editors) at <mailto:(info /at/ criticalglobalisation.com)>(info /at/ criticalglobalisation.com). Or see attachement for further details.
