[ecrea] AHRC Studentships at the University of Sussex
Thu Mar 05 15:14:03 GMT 2009
The Department of Media and Film at Sussex is pleased to offer
AHRC-funded doctoral studentships in the following subject areas: in
Film and Television ; Film, Digital and Media Production; and
Cultural Studies, together with an AHRC-funded Research Preparation
Masters studentship in Cultural Studies.
Media and Film at Sussex is one of the leading departments in the UK
in the field of media theory, practice and research. We have a
firmly established reputation in both teaching and research, built
on our distinctive interdisciplinary approach. In the 2008 national
research assessment exercise (RAE) our results were excellent,
placing us joint 8th out of 47 UK departments, and in the top 5
according to a 'Research Power' rating based on the top two RAE
bands. 100% of our research activity in Media and Film was rated as
'internationally recognised', internationally excellent' or 'world
leading'. Our Department is regularly ranked in the top 10 in the UK
(eg. in 'The Complete University Guide 2008').
In our engagements with the media we explore, interrogate and bring
together theoretical, critical and methodological traditions drawn
from the humanities, social sciences and creative practices. The
special focus of our work is on the decisive cultural role of media
systems within modern societies. We have a thriving research culture
that currently includes around 50 doctoral students, and the AHRC
judges our training and supervision to be 'excellent'. Our brand new
production facilities are state of the art and we have a dedicated
media and film library. We also have links with many Brighton-based,
national and international creative and media organisations.
