Tenure Track/Tenured Assistant or Associate Professor of Public Administration
The University of Texas at San Antonio
The Department of Public Administration at the University of Texas
at San Antonio (UTSA) invites applicants for a position at either
the assistant or associate level beginning Fall 2010 (pending budget
approval). For appointment at the Assistant Professor level,
required qualifications include an earned Ph.D. in Public
Administration, Public Policy, Urban Planning, Political Science or
related discipline by August 15, 2010. Candidates must demonstrate
evidence of excellence in research and teaching, or strong
potential. For appointment at the Associate Professor level, the
candidate must have an earned Ph.D. in Public Administration, Public
Policy, Urban Planning, Political Science or related discipline, and
must provide evidence of excellence in research, teaching and
service. All candidates must indicate the rank at which they wish to
be considered. Preferred qualifications include a specialization in
Urban Planning or Development and/or a specialization in Nonprofit
Management. The candidate should have the capacity to teach core
courses in Public Administration.
Responsibilities include teaching, research, and service. Teaching
may be at the graduate and/or undergraduate level. Courses will be
offered primarily in the evenings at the UTSA Downtown Campus but
may also be offered at the Main Campus. The department currently
offers a NASPAA accredited Master of Public Administration (MPA)
degree and an undergraduate minor in Nonprofit Management. The
department provides American Humanics certification both at the
graduate and undergraduate level and also offers a Certificate
Program in Nonprofit Administration and Leadership. The department
has proposed a joint Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning
with the UTSA College of Architecture. The department sees both
nonprofit management and urban planning as strong future program directions.
UTSA is an emerging research university and one of the fastest
growing public universities in Texas. It has a strong commitment to
faculty research and community involvement.
San Antonio is a vital and growing metropolitan area, with
substantial opportunities for professional research and community
service. It offers a wide range of housing options, vital local
cultural and artistic organizations, and the additional research
opportunities of the University of Texas and the LBJ Presidential
Library just an hour away in Austin.
Applicants must submit a letter of application; vita; names,
addresses, and telephone numbers of three references; one or two
article-length manuscripts or other samples of research and writing;
and teaching evaluations (if available) to: Faculty Search Committee
Chair, Department of Public Administration, University of Texas at
San Antonio, 501 W. Durango Blvd, San Antonio, Texas, 78207. ABD
applicants must have their Dissertation Committee Chair send a
letter to the Search Committee Chair indicating progress in degree
completion and/or expected date of defense. Initial review of
applicants will begin October 1, 2009 and will continue until the
position is filled.
