[ecrea] ICA Communication Law & Policy international networks and resources for scholars, policy practitioners, and public interest advocates
Sun May 31 15:27:12 GMT 2009
Dear Colleagues,
The Communication Law and Policy Division of the
International Communication Association has
created a new Group in LinkedIn as a way to
connect scholars working in this global and
interdisciplinary field. Please consider joining
as way to continue to connect and extend our
conversations before/after, and outside of
annual conferences, symposia, and events.
Another network of interest is the Social
Science Research Council?s (SSRC) Necessary
Knowledge for a Democratic Public Sphere program
? a resource for researchers, advocates, and
practitioners working for a more democratic and
participatory public sphere. See links below.
Best,
Becky Lentz

of the International Communication Association
(<http://www.icahdq.org/>http://www.icahdq.org/)
is interested in research and analysis of law,
regulation, and policy that deals with
information, communication, and culture. Please

The Necessary Knowledge for a Democratic Public
Sphere program
(<http://programs.ssrc.org/media/>http://programs.ssrc.org/media/)
works to build a culture of collaboration
between researchers, advocates, and activists
that can strengthen that knowledge
infrastructure. Its primary activities have
included 'collaborative grants' for
research/advocacy partnerships, a Data
Consortium for improving access to media and
communications datasets, and a range of other
facilitation services. The program is built
around an online 'Media Research Hub' that
brokers connections between researchers and
other constituencies. On the Hub you can seek
research funding, search for resources, get
access to data, and read about recent news,
events and opportunities:
It also has a listserve connecting scholars and
advocates in this field:
and a forum called Making Communication Research
Matter:
"Making Communications Research Matter" is an
SSRC essay forum intended to advance dialogue
about the relationship between research and
policymaking in media and communications.
