[ecrea] Associate / Assistant Professorships in Digital Media and Design

The IT University has research groups
that work with identifying and developing
innovative communication,
computer games, improving IT-design,
IT-technologies, and software development.
Much of this work is directed towards
contributing to a better understanding
of work practices and their organizational
context.

The IT University of Copenhagen

The IT University of Copenhagen (ITU) was
established in 1999 and is the youngest
university in Denmark.
Approximately 1,500 students are enrolled
in the university. Since the establishment
students with more than 100 different
bachelor degrees have been admitted.
ITU?s researchers work within six internationally
recognized research groups. Most
researchers participate in collaborative
projects with private companies, public
institutions and foreign researchers.
ITU is currently working towards becoming
a globally interactive university, with
faculty, students and staff working in
international teams.
ITU has a unique IT focus and expertise
and constantly directs its efforts to ensure
the quality and relevance of its research
and educational programmes.

and education within a wide range of
information technology subjects; from
design and game development to business
and science.

Associate / Assistant Professorships in Digital Media and Design

The IT University of Copenhagen invites applicants for associate / assistant professorships starting in January 2010. The IT University is starting a new bachelor program in Digital Media and Design
from September 2009. The applicants will be part of a new team developing and
conducting courses and new educational formats for this program. Part of the program
is offered in collaboration with a university in US.
The program covers two main areas: Media and Communication and Interaction
Design. Successful candidates should be competent in one of the two areas and must
be enthusiastic about:
? conducting research at the highest international level
? developing and conducting excellent and inspiring graduate and under-graduate
teaching
? actively taking part in developing the IT University and its relations with external
partners
Furthermore, faculty on associate professor level are expected to draw in external
funding for research and be capable
of, and prepared to supervise Ph.D.
Students.
Applicants in the area of Media and
Communication should be competent
in a broad selection of topics
from the area of digital media and
communication, including humanistic,
social and cultural aspects of
digital technologies.
A disciplinary background in the
humanities, communication or social
sciences is preferred, although
others are not excluded if the candidate can document work within the area.
Topics of interest are: digital communication (Internet/mobile), academic communication
and writing, digital media theory, digital rhetoric, methodologies in the study
of communication, strategic communication, cultural and sociological approaches to the study of digital media, digital culture and cultural policy, digital literature, digital aesthetics, art and design, historical perspectives on digital media and design, and visual communication. Moreover, it will be an asset if the applicant engages in
creative digital practice.
Applicants in the area of Interaction Design should be competent in a broad selection
of topics from the area. Topics of interest are: methodologies, methods and
techniques for interaction design, contextualized philosophy of science and historical aspects of digital design, techniques and tools for sketching, modeling and prototyping,
ethnographic approaches to design, methods for user-driven design, digital
aesthetics, pervasive computing, location-based services and gaze interaction.

The IT University is a multi-disciplinary, research-based institution with 30 faculty
drawn from computer science to the humanities. We provide graduate education to
1500 students in a range of areas.

The research group for Innovative Communication (InC) does research within the areas of assistive technologies, interaction design and digital communication and culture. The group is interdisciplinary, with members from the humanities, social and communication

Salary
Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Finance?s agreement
with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).

for the position and brief statements of research and teaching plans.

? Copies of max 5 different publications you wish the evaluation committee to
consider.
? A numbered list of publications. The enclosed publications should be marked with
an asterisk (*).
? Documentation of pedagogical experience and teaching record within one or more
of the teaching areas listed for the position.

1-6), must be assembled in sets.
The applicant will be assessed according to the Appointment Order from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of 17 March 2005. Please note that all application
material will be destroyed after the assessment.
