COURSE INFORMATION, DURATION AND MAJORS
Programme period: Spring semester 2005 (January) - autumn semester 2006 
(December)

Education
History
Journalism and Mass Communication
International Relations
Political Science
Sociology
Studies in the Master's programme consist of lectures and seminars on both 
Russian society and politics, and various aspects of Information Society. 
Students will, depending on the major subject, specialize in one of the 
fields, and take some courses in another field.

Major part of studies consists of supervised individual research for a 
Master´s thesis. Language studies and general studies (basic courses in the 
theory of science and research methodology) are also included. Studies 
require active attendance and participation in classes.

Knowledge and Media in Historical Context
Information Society as a Challenge for Education
Media and Society in Russia
Transition in Russia
Russian Post-Communist Political System
Russia in Europe
etc

Teachers come from various departments at the University of Tampere as well 
as partner universities in Europe and Russia.

APPLICATION DETAILS
The programme lasts for two years. Complemented by language and general 
studies plus other studies possibly required by the Faculty the programme 
leads to a Master's degree. Students can start their language and general 
studies plus other complementary studies already in autumn term 2004.
The general admission requirements for the ISSS Master's programme are:


A completed university level Bachelor's degree or equivalent studies in the 
major subject or in a closely related field
A good command of English for academic purposes
In addition, work experience relevant to the programme and other relevant 
merits and qualifications will be taken into account
All ISSS students must take an assessment test on written and oral English 
skills at the beginning of their first semester. Passing the test is an 
obligatory part of the programme and a requirement for all further studies 
at the ISSS.
