Postgraduate Training Day

Researching National and Regional Film and Television

29 April 2004

University of Ulster at Coleraine, Portrush campus

(followed by the Irish Postgraduate Film Research Seminar on 30 April)

This event will take place on the University of Ulster at Coleraine,
Portrush campus on 29 April 2004, 115 pm. The day will consider the
conceptual and methodological issues involved in researching regional and
national cinemas and speakers will include John Caughie (University of
Glasgow), Ian Christie (Birkbeck College), John Hill, Martin McLoone, and
Valentina Vitali (all University of Ulster). The training day is designed
for research students with an interest in film and television studies and
there will be an opportunity for students to present their
projects, meet scholars attached to the Centre and to contribute to
discussions.

The training day coincides with the Irish Postgraduate Film Research
Seminar, a collaborative venture between Trinity College, Dublin and the
Centre for Media Research at the University of Ulster designed to provide a
platform for the presentation of new research by film scholars in Irish
third-level institutions and those working on Irish film topics in
non-Irish universities and colleges. Professor Meaghan Morris of the
University of Hong Kong will deliver the keynote address on the evening of
29 April and the conference presentations will take place on the 30 April.
