[Commlist] MENT issue 003 published

Wed May 13 15:58:58 GMT 2026

We are pleased to announce the print release of MENT Issue 003, a
Korean pop culture publication that bridges the gap between scholarly
and fan discourse. This new issue brings together media studies
scholars, labor organizers, film critics, cultural workers, fans, and
diasporic voices to examine how bodies on screens and behind the
scenes are organized, disciplined, extracted, or otherwise made
legible within contemporary media ecologies.

Beginning with KPop Demon Hunters, Issue 003 examines what the film’s
animated idol bodies reveal about the neoliberal modularity of our
present moment. Going beyond where the film leaves off, the pieces in
this issue insist on the need to attend to bodies that are injured,
absent, laboring, resistant, or otherwise difficult to subsume under
fantasies of seamless performance.
