[Commlist] International Journal of Disney Studies seeks guest editor

Mon Feb 09 16:28:09 GMT 2026

The /International Journal of Disney Studies/ is planning two exciting special issues (more about them below), and we’re looking to expand our guest editor teams for them! As guest editor, you would work with your fellow guest editors to shepherd the special issue from developing the Call for Papers to the peer review and editing process to publication. If you have editing experience and/or want to develop your skills as an editor, we’d love to hear from you! The two special issues are:

*Mickey and Minnie Mouse at 100* (volume 4, issue 2; fall 2028)

Current guest editors: Joel Gray and Peter Cullen Bryan

Looking for 1 more guest editor

Tentative description: This special issue will explore the century of Mickey and Minnie Mouse from their first appearance in /Steamboat Willie/ in 1928. Of special interest are longitudinal studies and studies examining the characters across national boundaries.

*Global Disney Fandom* (volume 5, issue 2; fall 2029)

Current guest editor: Rebecca Williams

Looking for 1-2 more guest editors

Tentative description: This special issue will explore how fans from all over the world engage with all things Disney. For this issue, we are especially interested in empirical research with real fans to develop current research on Disney audiences.

We welcome applications from any scholar with Disney knowledge who is interested in guest editing one (or both) of these topics. As a highly interdisciplinary field, Disney Studies invites scholars from disciplines ranging from film/media studies to business and marketing to cultural studies to education to fandom studies to tourism and hospitality studies (and many more). We are especially interested in scholars from the Global South and/or early career researchers interested in developing their editing skills.

To apply to one or both of these guest editor opportunities (or if you have any questions), please email a 1-page cover letter (with your name, which issue(s) you are applying to guest edit, an explanation of why you want to guest edit the issue(s), and why you think you’d be a good fit) and a CV to (_IJoDS /at/ intellectbooks.com) <mailto:(IJoDS /at/ intellectbooks.com)>_ by *April 1, 2026. *The new guest editors will be chosen by the /IJDS/ editors along with the current guest editors for each issue.
