[Commlist] Clothing Cultures 10.1 published - special issue on The Uniform: Symbols of Power, Propaganda and Organization in Popular Culture
Sat Nov 09 12:17:18 GMT 2024
Intellect is pleased to present Clothing Cultures 10.1!
Special Issue: ‘The Uniform: Symbols of Power, Propaganda and
Organization in Popular Culture’
This Special Issue responds to a two-day symposium hosted by the Popular
Culture Research Network at the University of New England on 20–21 April
2023. The symposium examined several ways wearing uniforms intersects
with ideas of power, propaganda, organization, work, politics, education
and lifestyle and how the uniform interacts with and sometimes frames –
both positively and negatively – identity, class, gender, sexuality,
nationalism, materiality and consumption. These concerns were further
developed in response to geographical and cultural distinction, within
daily life, and through representation across varied media platforms and
genres.
