CFP: Cultural Studies Association Conference - Thresholds


The Working Group on New Media and Digital Cultures invites abstract 
submissions for the 25th annual meeting of the Cultural Studies 
Association (CSA), June 3-5, 2027. The conference is fully online and 
will be held over Zoom.


The theme for the 2027 CSA Conference is “Thresholds.” Boundaries, 
borders, crossings, and inflection points are objects of study and 
frames of reference that animate cultural studies approaches to digital 
media. We invite papers, pre-constituted panels, roundtables and praxis 
sessions that interpret this theme broadly through the lens of new media 
and digital cultures. Topics might include:
Catastrophe, crisis, and convergence on and of(f) digital media
Digital culture as friction; dis/connections, encounters, and reproductions
Inflection points in new media studies; turns, genealogies, “post-”
Crossed thresholds; the before/during/after of platformization
Transitions, trans/inter-nationalities, global/local relationalities and 
digital cultures
Human and machinic thresholds in the wake of artificial intelligence
Biohacking, machine resurrection, and thresholds of life/death
Labor, co-production, influencer creep, and technological thresholds in 
the university
Praxis, advocacy, and social movement(s) on the internet
Threshold and method; entry/exit, log on/off, boundary-work and new media


SUBMISSION PROCESS: All proposals should be submitted through EasyChair

Submissions: Friday, November 20th, 2026. Please prepare all the 
materials required to propose your session according to the given 
directions before you begin electronic submission. All program 
information will be based on initial conference submissions. Please 
avoid lengthy titles and include your name and affiliations as you would 
like them to appear on the program.


REGISTRATION: All accepted participants must register to be included in 
the conference. Early bird registration lasts until April 2nd, and the

ABOUT THE WORKING GROUP: We are a transdisciplinary cohort of scholars, 
teachers, students, and activists applying the political imperative of 
cultural studies to the study of new media, broadly conceived - the 
internet, social media, platforms, artificial intelligence, emerging 
technology, digital infrastructure, virtual cultures, networked publics, 
and beyond. We offer regular meetings and newsletters, a mentorship 
program, publication opportunities, pedagogical collaboration, and a 
vibrant community embedded within the Cultural Studies Association.
