[Commlist] Encyclopedia of Queer Media - Call for Entries/Topics

Thu Jun 25 16:04:32 GMT 2026

We are currently editing a first-ever /Encyclopedia of Queer Media/ to be published next year by Elgar and we’re looking to fill a number of remaining topics.

There are few resources that provide encyclopedic knowledge in the fields of queer media, screen representation and digital culture, and we’re sure most people would agree that this is a timely and important resource as we approach the 2030s.

Like most encyclopedias, these entries will be scholarly (with 8-12 references) but pitched to a general readership; entries range from 1,000 words to 3,000 words.

The editorial team will provide as much support as we can, including editorial advice in one round of revisions, but we are open to authors framing the topic themselves.

You may be interested, or you may have a colleague or graduate student who would like to author a piece, or you may wish to co-author with a colleague—please feel free to share.

If one or more of the below topics interests you or falls in your area of study, please message us at (encyclo.queer.media /at/ gmail.com) <mailto:(encyclo.queer.media /at/ gmail.com)>with a short bio and the topic title, and we’ll confirm and send guidelines (usually within 3-4 days).

*On behalf of the editorial team: Dr Whitney Monaghan (Monash University), Dr Damien O’Meara (RMIT University), Professor Rob Cover (RMIT University). *
