[Commlist] Call for Papers: Forecasting the Future: Between Media, Technology and Society

Fri Jun 19 12:10:36 GMT 2026

*Forecasting the Future: Between Media, Technology and Society*
*7th Conference KNOWLEDGE–COMMUNICATION–ACTION*
Kraków, Poland
15–16 October 2026

Organised by the Institute of Journalism, Media and Social Communication at Jagiellonian University, this seventh edition of the Knowledge–Communication–Action conference series will, for the first time, take on an international character, bringing together scholars from different countries and research traditions to discuss the future of media, communication, technology, and society.

The conference explores the future as a field of possible scenarios, tensions, and alternative trajectories of social development. In a world shaped by rapid technological change, algorithmisation, and recurring political, economic, and health crises, participants are invited to reflect on how media and communication both influence and respond to ongoing transformations.

The programme is organised around four thematic tracks:

*PROcesses* – transformations of media in the era of hybridity
*PROjects* – international, cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary collaborations
*PROfessions* – technology and the user/creator/participant
*PROblems* – society, culture and science in times of uncertainty

The organisers welcome both empirical and theoretical contributions, including analyses of contemporary media and communication phenomena, as well as broader reflections on emerging technologies, discourses, and future-oriented social change.

*Important dates*

  * *Abstract submissions:* 25 May – 12 July 2026
  * *Conference dates:* 15–16 October 2026
