The *Radical Film Network *(RFN) was founded in 2013 when a group of
activists, academics, filmmakers and programmers involved in radical
film culture in Britain met to discuss the ways in which they could work
together to support its development, growth and sustainability. Since
then, the RFN has grown rapidly, and now consists of more than 240
organisations from 58 countries around the world: from artists’ studios
and production collectives to archives, co-ops, distributors, film
festivals and exhibition venues, as well as a host of other less easily
categorised groups and individuals.
RFN gatherings — conferences and unconferences, festivals and meetings —
aim to offer a space open to everyone interested in radical film
cultures to meet, come together and share experiences and knowledge on
how we conceive and develop our practice. Following the previous RFN
conferences in Birmingham, Glasgow, New York City, Tolpuddle, Dublin,
Nottingham, Berlin, Genoa and Madrid, the 2026 Radical Film Network
conference will take place in Paris, from Friday 12 to Monday 15 June 2026.
Ninety years after the victory of the Popular Fronts in Europe, when
fascism and necropolitical imperialist projects (re)emerge in a world
threatened by climate crisis, while international politico-juridical
institutions risk collapse in the context of the ongoing genocides in
Palestine and in other geopolitical zones, we extend an invitation to
discuss the ability of cinema to document, question and transform
reality — to build fronts. The 12th edition of RFN aims to incite a
broad discussion on the history of militant, engaged and experimental
cinema and its “state of the form,” focusing, among other aspects, on
formal strategies, modes of production and distribution, pedagogical
practices, and archival operations.
Proposal topics might include but are not limited to:
1. Cinemas of the Popular Fonts;
2. Collective cinemas (militant, engaged, feminist, LGBTQIA+, and other
films);
3. Cinema against necropolitics: genocides, ecocides, epistemicides,
femicides;
4. Film’s performativity and image-actions;
5. Film and education: emancipatory pedagogical practices;
6. Decolonising cinema and through cinema: past and present;
7. Politics and poetics of cinema: formal dynamics and aesthetics of
resistance;
8. Archival operations;
9. Institutional policies: the autonomy of art and the social field;
consent and complicity;
10. Internationalist circulations, yesterday and today;
11. Cinemas of territories under struggle (Indigenous cinemas, social
movement cinemas, community cinemas, etc.);
12. Technological apparatuses and emancipation.
*Submission details: *
We consider the following forms presentation in English or French:
• Individual presentations
• Pre-constituted panels
• Workshops
Proposals for *individual papers *(15-20 minutes) should include:
- a title;
- an abstract (500 words);
- 5 keywords;
- a short biography (150 words).
Proposals for *pre-constituted panels *require:
- a title;
- a description of the panel (300 words);
- title and individual presentations descriptions (15-20 minutes) (300
words);
- 5 keywords;
- a short biography of each participant (150 words).
Pre-constituted panel proposals will be submitted by the panel chair.
Workshops are spaces for a more open and unstructured discussion or
practice on a given specific topic between participants.
Proposals for *workshops *should include:
- a title;
- a description (300 words);
- an outline of the session and individual interventions, with the
duration of the workshop (500 words);
- 5 keywords;
- a short biography of each participant (150 words).
Workshop proposals will be submitted by the workshop chair.

*Registration and travel grants *
Beyond the funding provided by the organizing universities, the
conference will work with a redistributive funding model. After
acceptance of proposals, a registration fee of 125€ will be required for
participants with access to financial support from their institutions
and/or organisations. French delegates and students with institutional
funding will benefit from a special fee. A pay-what-you-can registration
system will be offered to those that can afford
the expenses, upon personal possibilities. Finally, registration will be
free to all unwaged participants.
Funds raised will be used for limited bursary support to help with
travel costs for those with financial needs. To apply for the travel
grant, the registration form will ask you to explain in a brief
paragraph your financial situation and why you are willing to attend the
conference.

Le *Radical Film Network (RFN) *a été fondé en 2013, lorsqu’un groupe
d’activistes, de chercheur·e·s, de cinéastes et de programmateur·rice·s
impliqué·e·s dans la culture cinématographique radicale au Royaume-Uni
s’est réuni afin de discuter des moyens par lesquels ils et elles
pourraient collaborer pour soutenir son développement, sa croissance et
sa durée. Depuis, le RFN s’est considérablement développé et regroupe
aujourd’hui plus de 240 organisations issues de 58 pays à travers le
monde : des ateliers d’artistes et collectifs de production aux
archives, coopératives, distributeurs, festivals de cinéma et lieux de
projection, ainsi qu’un ensemble d’autres groupes et individus
difficiles à mettre dans des catégories.
Les rencontres du RFN — colloques, « anti-colloques », festivals et
réunions — ont pour objectif d’offrir un espace ouvert à toutes les
personnes intéressées par les cultures cinématographiques radicales et
leur permettent de se rencontrer, d’échanger et de partager leurs
expériences et leurs savoirs sur la manière dont nous concevons et
développons nos pratiques. À la suite des précédents colloques du RFN,
organisés à Birmingham, Glasgow, New York, Tolpuddle, Dublin,
Nottingham, Berlin, Gênes et Madrid, c’est à Paris que se tiendra la
conférence 2026 du Radical Film Network, du *vendredi 12 au lundi 15
juin 2026*.
Quatre-vingt-dix ans après la victoire des Fronts populaires en Europe,
à un moment où le fascisme et des projets qui relèvent de la
nécropolitique impérialiste (re)font surface dans un monde menacé par la
crise climatique, tandis que les institutions politico-juridiques
internationales risquent d’être démantelées dans le contexte des
génocides en cours en Palestine et dans d’autres zones géopolitiques,
nous lançons une invitation à débattre de la capacité du cinéma à
documenter, questionner et transformer la réalité : à construire des
fronts. La *douzième édition du RFN *vise à susciter une réflexion
approfondie sur l’histoire du cinéma militant, engagé et expérimental et
invite à se demander sur leur « état de la forme », en portant une
attention particulière, entre autres, aux stratégies formelles, aux
modes de production et de distribution, aux pratiques pédagogiques et
aux opérations archivistiques.
Les propositions peuvent porter, sans s’y limiter, sur les thèmes suivants :
1. Cinémas des fronts populaires ;
2. Cinémas collectifs (militants, engagés, féministes, LGBTQIA+, etc.) ;
3. Le cinéma contre la nécropolitique : génocides, écocide, féminicides,
épistémicides ;
4. Performativité du cinéma et images-actions ;
5. Cinéma et éducation : pratiques pédagogiques d’émancipation ;
6. Décoloniser avec/le cinéma, hier et aujourd’hui ;
7. Politique et poétique du cinéma : dynamiques formelles et esthétique
de la résistance;
8. Opérations archivistiques ;
9. Politiques des institutions : autonomie de l’art face au champ social
; consentement et complicité ;
10. Circulations internationalistes, hier et aujourd’hui ;
11. Cinémas des territoires en lutte (cinémas autochtones, cinémas des
mouvements sociaux, cinémas communautaires, etc.) ;
12. Dispositifs technologiques et émancipation.

Les propositions de *communications individuelles *(15-20 minutes)
doivent inclure :

*Inscription et bourses de voyage *
Au-delà du financement des universités organisatrices, la conférence
fonctionnera selon un modèle de financement redistributif. Après
acceptation des propositions, des frais d’inscription de 125 € seront
demandés aux participant·es bénéficiant d’un soutien financier de la
part de leur institution et/ou organisation. Les délégué·es et
étudiant·es français bénéficiant d’un financement institutionnel
bénéficieront d’un tarif spécial. Un système d’inscription « payez ce
que vous pouvez » sera proposé à ceux qui peuvent assumer les frais, en
fonction de leurs possibilités personnelles. Enfin, l’inscription sera
gratuite pour toustes les participant·es sans revenu.
Les fonds collectés seront utilisés pour offrir une aide financière
limitée afin de couvrir les frais de déplacement des personnes ayant des
besoins financiers. Pour demander cette aide, le formulaire
d'inscription vous demandera d’expliquer en quelques lignes votre
situation financière et les raisons pour lesquelles vous souhaitez
participer à la conférence.
