Fri Jul 25 08:44:52 GMT 2025
Jascha Bareis is happy to announce the preliminary programme for the the
first Hype Studies conference '(Don't) believe the hype?!', taking place
10th-12th of Sepember at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (fully
hybrid / fully free).
We are indebted to all contributors who enabled us to assort a diverse,
truly cross-disciplinary and exciting programme to understand, assess
and challenge hype in all its societal forms.

Over 100 researchers, activists, technologists and artists submitted
their thought-provoking proposals for our upcoming event in September.
Conference participants will have a chance to learn about critical
analyses of AI, venture capitalism, quantum technologies, green energy
fuels and many other topics. Aside from the packed programme of talks,
we'll be offering workshops (on 'shitpublishing!' AI metaphors! Hype
mapping!), an art exhibition (anyone interested in saliva and Pavlov's
dog?) and film screening.
Online participation is possible after registration under:
