[Commlist] Call for applications to PhD course on Autoethnographic methods, deadline October 10.

Wed Sep 18 13:09:44 GMT 2024

The upcoming PhD course Autoethnographic methods: Building reflexivity through critical and collaborative arts-based practice, November 19-22, 2024, is open for applications. Current PhD students are welcome on the 4-day long, 4 ECTS PhD course taking place at Roskilde University close to Copenhagen, Denmark, with one course day in Copenhagen. Apart from lectures, discussions, and peer feedback sessions, we will engage in site-specific concepts and creative collaborations, including visits and activities with the research collective Kollektivt omsorg, the artist Nana Francisca Schöttlander, and a visit to Sisters Hope Home.

The course explores autoethnography as a main or supplemental mindset integrated with arts-based research practices. Course themes include collaborative autoethnography, embodiment, autoethnography and intergenerational memory, autoethnography as a method to engage with more-than-human entities, and decolonial potentialities. We unlock these themes by applying the prism of arts-based approaches and actively developing autoethnographic work.

Last time we offered the course in 2022, the participants were a mixed group of PhD fellows from across the humanities and social sciences, artistic PhD fellows, including artist/researchers, filmmakers, architects, and designers.

The application deadline is October 10. In the case of many qualified applicants, preference will be given to earlier applications.

Course dates: November 19-22 (full days with physical presence).

The course is held in English but it is possible to write/work in other languages if your group process accommodates this.
