[Commlist] Call for Communication - RESIPROC Annual Conference

Fri May 17 18:43:30 GMT 2024

*Call for Communication*

*Annual RESIPROC Conference, October 7-8, 2024 (the conference will be held in French only)*

*University of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada*

*Deadline for submission of presentation proposals: June 14*

*Between Revolutions and Disruptions:*

*The Issues and Challenges of Technological Innovations and Disruptions on Professional Communication Practices*

*Note: This conference will take place during Digital Disruptions Week organized by the Department of Communication at the University of Sherbrooke from October 7 to 9 on the main campus of the University of Sherbrooke. The aim of these activities is to facilitate meetings between researchers, students, and professionals in the communications and marketing industries in an innovative context.*

Contemporary communication is subjected to unprecedented disruptive forces. Professionals now have to manage greater complexity in sociocultural environments (how to conduct a campaign that is both inclusive and niche?) and the daunting certainty of climate change (how to navigate between greenwashing and eco-anxiety?).

Major technological disruptions, such as artificial intelligence (AI), the data deluge, and robotic or quantum technologies, add to this context. Gathered under the banner of digital technology, they produce the most striking changes in the field of professional practices. In this period of rapid transformation, we invite you to participate in a major academic conference aimed at exploring and analyzing the effects of these technological transformations on communication spheres and discussing them.

Context and Objectives

The issues and challenges related to new forms of professional communication linked to digital technology manifest themselves on several levels, some of which have already been addressed in the issues of the journal Communication & Professionalization or in previous RESIPROC conferences. These include the integration of new social dynamics, such as managing online comments (issue no. 11, Leveneur & Pélissier, 2020), or big data (2023 conference, Coutant & Larroche), the new paradigm of metrics (issue no. 9, Peirot & Roginsky, 2019), and new professional trajectories (issue no. 7, Baillargeon & Coutant, 2018). There is also a need for ad hoc skills (issue no. 3, Coutant & Domenget, 2015).

After social media, blockchains, and NFTs, after the metaverse and in the era of ChatGPT, but also before the arrival of strong AI and quantum computers, and without being able to predict what will follow, this conference aims to take time to question these rapid and sometimes brutal, often trivial and sometimes radical transformations. Thus, the papers presented on this occasion will help to understand these developments and extract knowledge to better comprehend their impact on professional communication practices.

*About RESIPROC (resiproc.org)*

The International Network on the Professionalization of Communication (RESIPROC) aims to bring together communication professionals from the business world, academia, and research to study the professionalization of communication roles and functions. Comprising researchers and practitioners from several Francophone countries, RESIPROC was established to understand the evolution of communication practices, examine the role of university communication programs, strengthen dialogue between professional and academic communities, and ultimately define what is meant by the professionalization in and of communication.
