We are pleased to announce the Call for Papers for the Conference on
Intersectionality in Discourse, Literature, and Culture. This
interdisciplinary conference invites scholars and researchers to delve into
the dynamic concept of intersectionality and its profound influence on
literature, discourse, and cultural practices andencourages the exchange of
ideas and methodologies by offering a platform for critical dialogues.
Intersectionality stands as a critical theoretical framework that 
illuminates
the intricate interplay between multiple social identities, power 
structures,
and cultural discourses. It helps understand how different social categories
and identities, such as race, gender, sexuality, class, and disability,
intersect and overlap to create complex experiences of discrimination,
privilege, and social inequality for individuals or groups who embody
multiple marginalized identities.



The literal meaning of “intersectionality” is the point at which two or
more things intersect or cross each other. In language and literature
studies, intersectionality refers to the examination of how multiple social
identities intersect to shape the production and interpretation of 
texts. The
concept was originally developed within critical feminist theory and has
since been expanded upon and applied in different contexts. Kimberlé
Crenshaw, who is often credited with coining the term “intersectionality”
in the late 1980s, reveals how individuals experience compounded forms of
discrimination when they belong to multiple marginalized groups. A scholar
like Bellhooks has integrated intersectionality into her literary and
critical work to examine the ways race, gender, sexual orientation, gender
identity and class might overlap. Similarly, Audre Lorde’s work shows the
importance of embracing one’s intersecting identities as a sourceof
strength.



The concept continues to evolve as scholars and activists apply itin
numerousacademic disciplines, including gender studies, sociology, critical
race theory, etc.The social theorist Patricia Hill Collins expanded
intersectionality theory by introducing the concept of the “matrix of
domination” which refers to the interlocking nature of various systems of
power and oppression. Likewise, the scholar and activistAngela Davis has
focused on the intersection of race, class, and gender in her writings and
activism, particularly in relation to the prison-industrial
complex.Intersectionality has become a valuable tool for understanding and
addressing social inequalities.



This conference aims to uncover the profound impact of intersectionality on
literary narratives, discursive practices, and cultural phenomena.We welcome
submissions from scholars, researchers and graduate students who engage with
intersectionality in various fields, including but not limited to 
literature,
linguistics, cultural studies, philosophy, sociology, anthropology,
communication studies, media studies, and gender studies.
