We are excited to invite you to the* Media Platformisation and Small 
Nations* Conference. The conference is part of EuromediApp-project 
“European media and platform policy”, funded by EU’s Jean Monnet 
Network program and participated by seven universities from different 
European countries. In Finland, the event is organized jointly by the 
EuramediApp network and two Finnish Academy-funded research projects, 
CORDI (“Communication Rights in the Age of Digital Disruption”) and MAPS 
(“Media platforms and social accountability: Dynamics, practices, and 
discourses”).

Considering the ubiquity of digital platforms in our everyday lives, 
their influence on public life in Finland and in Europe is hardly 
discussed. The aim of this conference is to offer a platform to discuss 
and assess how the advance of the platforms – or the process of 
platformisation – is reflected in Finland and beyond its borders. 
Although the provision of news and journalism-related content is only a 
small part of these platforms’ activities, it will be the focus of the 
conference.

We have assembled an outstanding expert panel to cover the themes. Our 
keynote speakers include:

Professor Steven Livingston (George Washington University, School of 
Media and Public Affairs)
Professor Terry Flew (University of Sydney)
Professor Anja Bechmann (Aarhus University)
Professor Marko Milosavljevic (University of Ljubljana)
Professor Natali Helberger (University of Amsterdam)

The programme consists of two days. The first day focuses on academic 
research on the theme and the second day is dedicated to an 
international panel as well as a stakeholder roundtable on Finland. The 
event is hybrid. The first day is fully online and open for all. The 
second day is a blend of an open virtual event and an in-person event by 
invitation only.

Even though the virtual parts of the event are free of charge for all 
participants, participants still need to register. Registration is open 
from 13.09.2021 to 22.10.2021.
