[Commlist] Conviviality Conference

The Political Ecology Research Centre at Massey University and the Centre for Space, Place & Society at Wageningen University are excited to share information about the upcoming open access, virtual conference /Conviviality /(October 4-9, 2021).

This conference draws together many early-career researchers as well as established scholars, including many from the Global South, to examine intersections of agriculture and the practices, values, and limits of diverse relations among humans, plants, animals, and soil.

Conference themes include:

  * Conservation Politics
  * Conviviality through Peatlands - a collective brainstorm session
    hosted by RE-PEAT <https://www.re-peat.earth/>
  * Cultivation Beyond Productivism
  * Extraction, Labour, Ecologies
  * Botanical Relations
  * Multispecies Relations
  * Indigeniety and Decolonization
  * Convivial Placemaking - A digital roundtable discussion led by Dr.
    Vitalija Povilaityte-Petri
  * The Urban Convivial
  * Ideologies, Tools, and Advocacy

The keynote speakers are:

  * Maywa Montenegro
  * Bram Büscher
  * Reginaldo Haslett-Marroquin, a Guatemalan farmer working at a Co-op
    in the Midwest
  * Andre Leon
  * Annu Jalais
  * Pounamu Skelton of Te Āti Awa Taranaki and Ngāti Ruanui Iwi, an
    educator and Hua Parakore practitioner working in Taranaki
  * Yanniek Schoonhoven

During the week of *October 4-9, 2021 *conference content will be posted to**the conference homepage <https://perc.ac.nz/wordpress/conviviality/>. Amid unprecedented demands on our time and attention, the asynchronous, virtual format encourages engagement that can be as light and flexible or immersive as your circumstances allow. Attendees can view presentations on demand and join in written discussions in the comments sections. Audio and visual responses and interventions are also welcome.

There are no registration or costs associated with the conference, and the presentations and discussions will stay online as a resource.
