[Commlist] cfp: Intercultural tensions in organizations

CFP for a special issue on “Intercultural tensions in organizations” in 
the French journal Communication & Organisation (see French version 
below). Articles must be written in French. Abstracts are due by March,

Summary:

Although a large body of research on intercultural communication has 
adopted “liquid” approaches to the concept of culture, open to its 
plurality and endeavoring to go past national scales, these views seem 
to remain scarcely represented among francophone work conducted within 
the field of information and communication sciences and focusing on 
organizations. Volume 58 of the French journal Communication & 
Organisation will explore this dimension and invites contributions using 
a critical framework to interculturality with the aim of shedding light 
on the following issues, from theoretical, empirical and/or 
methodological viewpoints (the following list is not exhaustive):

-Cultural framing of organizational power struggles

-Cultural and identity dimensions of change management in organizations

-Intersectional approach (Crenshaw 1991) to organizations

-Dealing with cultural diversity and identities in organizations

-Scales to examine culture (Desjeux 2002)

-Critical intercultural methodology in organizational communication

Key dates:

1 March 2020: Deadline to submit abstracts (6 000 characters, including 
spaces, excluding bibliography)

15 March 2020: Notifications of acceptance

15 May 2020: Deadline to submit full papers (35 000 characters maximum) 
for peer-review process

30 June 2020: Authors receive feedback from the peer-review process

15 September 2020: Deadline to submit revised articles

December 2020: Publication of the special issue

Résumé :

Bien qu’une grande partie des travaux en communication interculturelle 
adopte une approche « liquide » du concept de culture, ouverte à son 
caractère pluriel, afin de dépasser le prisme national, cette approche 
semble encore peu représentée parmi les travaux francophones en sciences 
de l’information et de la communication portant sur les organisations. 
Le numéro 58 de Communication & organisation vise à explorer cette 
dimension, en invitant des propositions ayant une approche critique de 
l’interculturel, afin d’éclairer les problématiques suivantes (de façon 
théorique, empirique, et/ou méthodologique), la liste suivante n’étant 
cependant pas exhaustive :

-Le cadrage culturel de luttes de pouvoir organisationnelles

-La dimension culturelle et identitaire de la gestion du changement en 
organisation

-L’approche intersectionnelle (Crenshaw 1991) des organisations

-La gestion de la diversité culturelle et identitaire dans les 
organisations 

-Les échelles d’observation de la culture (Desjeux 2002) 

-La méthodologie de l’interculturel critique en communication des 
organisations

Calendrier :

1 mars 2020 : Envoi des propositions de 6000 caractères, espaces 
compris, selon les consignes de rédaction, bibliographie non comprise 

15 mars 2020 : Retour aux auteur.es de la sélection des propositions

15 mai 2020 : Remise de l’article intégral (35 000 caractères maximum) 
pour relecture en double aveugle par le comité de lecture

30 juin 2020 : Retour aux auteur.es de l’évaluation par le comité de lecture

15 septembre 2020 : Retour des articles définitifs

décembre 2020 : Publication du numéro
