[Commlist] CFP Teen Narrative Cultures and Adult Content Symposium
Thu Nov 21 14:50:52 GMT 2019
Teen Narrative Cultures and Adult Content Symposium
Perth, 23^rd , 24^th September 2020
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
This symposium will explore teen constructions of crossover texts that
respond both to teen narrative cultures and materials that might be
categorised as adult content. One critical area of inquiry is whether
there are gendered dimensions to the consumption of such narratives. For
example, it appears that young males are more likely to access visual
sexual content more often and at younger ages than their female peers. In
contrast, adolescent girls may well be writing or reading explicit
sexual fiction based around key fandom communities.Fan fiction writing
such as Harry Potter, Justin Bieber and Twilight fandom are some examples.
We are seeking abstracts pertaining to the symposium topic area
including but not limited to the following possible prompts:
Fanaticising sexual futures
Feeling safe in same-sex imaginaries
Bragging, bravado and boys interpretations of gendered masculinity
Narrativising sex education
Fantasy as a safe space for unsafe sexual imaginaries
Selfies and discourses of sexualisation
Fictionalised coming of age stories and their real-world impacts
Affective engagement with adult content
Romanticising non-normative sexualities (eg. 50 Shades of Grey etc.)
250 word abstract submission deadline
Friday 28^th February2020
Intended Outcome: high quality peer reviewed publication
