*Background*
The first World Summit on Media for Children took place in 1995 and they have continued every 3 years ever since. The last Summit was held in Kuala Lumpur in 2014. Each Summit is commissioned by the World Summit on Media for Children Foundation and aims to create a global community committed to the improvement of quality media for children.

For CGMS 2017, we welcome submissions that are about children’s media in relation to the five themes that will be addressed at the Summit: Innovation, Education, Empowerment, Entertainment, and how to safely enable Freedom for children online.

You might want to consider:
*- Innovation *– play, platforms and storytelling
/How is tech transforming digital media for children?/
-*Freedom* – Resilience, regulation and protection online
/Is it too late to rebuild the internet for children?/
- *Education* – structures, globalization, self-teaching
/What’s the impact of digital media on education across the globe?/
- *Entertainment* – celebrity, commercial, audience expectation
/What is entertainment in a digital world and why does it matter?/
- *Empowerment* – diversity, ownership, truth
/How can we give children a bigger voice on the global stage?/

The Summit is aimed at professionals involved in the creation, distribution, business or study of children’s media, and those who are involved in policy-making that affects this industry. The Summit focuses on digital and broadcast media that kids engage with and consume, but not in the area of toys, music, films or books.

Submission should be based on original research, or can be a presentation of a case study, which shares a first-hand experience of a new digital innovation or inspirational story.

All submissions should be around 500 words including research focus, underpinning methodology, main findings. An international committee will evaluate submissions, judged on rigour, originality, and relevance to the Summit; the panel will be academic peers and the BBC Editorial Team.

We anticipate that insights from research papers will be presented as 10-15 minute speech, with 5 mins for Q&A. Please note however that this format is not rigid, and may be subject to change as the event planning develops. The conference’s official language is English.

Authors will be expected to fund their delegate registration, travel and accommodation costs.

All submissions will be done electronically.
