[ecrea] Comparing Experimental Cinemas symposium, 18-19 Dec

The Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media (CREAM), 
University of Westminster, and Srishti School of Art, Design and 
Technology, in collaboration with Experimenta India, present ‘Comparing 
Experimental Cinemas’, an international symposium on experimental moving 
image practices.

 ‘Comparing Experimental Cinemas’ inaugurates a joint research project 
between CREAM and Srishti, which is led by May Adadol Ingawanij (CREAM) 
and Shai Heredia (Srishti), and funded by the British Academy’s 
International Partnership and Mobility scheme. The project proposes to 
map histories and modes of global connectivity of artists' moving image 
across localities in Asia and beyond, and to theorise the regionality of 
experimental moving image practices. This symposium also intends to 
facilitate the establishing of a network of exchange and support among 
artists and other practitioners, who are largely, but not exclusively, 
based in the Asia-Pacific region. The long-term goal of the research 
project and network is to establish a sustainable infrastructure for 
disseminating experimental and artists' moving image.

The symposium consists of two days of illustrated talks and screening 
programmes by grassroots educationalists, curators, artists, festival 
directors and academic researchers from India, Indonesia, Japan, Hong 
Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, and the UK, 
who will be coming together for the first time to present and discuss 
historical and contemporary contexts of experimental cinema in Asia.

The symposium will take place at Srishti School of Art, Design and 
Technology, Bangalore, on 18-19 December 2014. For registration
