[ecrea] Conference on Affect, Memory, and Trauma at Goldsmiths
Wed Jan 23 08:05:51 GMT 2013
AFFECT, MEMORY, AND THE
TRANSMISSION OF TRAUMA
Friday 15th March 2013 GOLDSMITHS, University of London
You are invited to this interdisciplinary symposium that explores the
connections between affect, memory, and trauma, and examines their
crucial role in how we construct our individual and collective
identities. It offers innovative perspectives on memory as a productive
and performative affective practice that might disobey cognitive
conventions, shaping our understanding of the past, and affecting the
imagination of the future.
Within the recent ‘turn to affect’ in cultural studies, the arts and
humanities and, increasingly, in the social sciences, the symposium
gathers a number of scholars to stimulate an interdisciplinary dialogue
that intersects the fields of affect, memory, and trauma studies.
Keynote speaker: Professor Valerie Walkerdine, Cardiff University
Author of Gender, Work and Community after De-Industrialisation (2012);
Children, Gender, Video Games (2007); Growing Up Girl (2002)
In conversation with Dr. Lisa Blackman, Goldsmiths, University of London
Author of Immaterial Bodies (2012); The Body: Key Concepts (2008);
Hearing Voices (2001)
