Sat Oct 03 13:54:51 GMT 2026
*Call For Papers For Cinema Symposium*
We are pleased to announce the 1st International Rodosto (Rhodes) Cinema
Studies Symposium, which we have been working diligently to organize. It
will be held in Tekirdağ, Türkiye, hosted by the Faculty of Fine Arts,
Design, and Architecture at Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University, from April
28 to 30, 2027.
rscs-en.nku.edu.tr <http://rscs-en.nku.edu.tr>
Our English website (https://rscs-en.nku.edu.tr/
<https://rscs-en.nku.edu.tr/>) went live on October 1, 2026; abstract
submissions are now open and will be accepted until March 1, 2027.
Additionally, our symposium’s Instagram account, “rodosto_sinema”, is
now active.
We invite you to participate in the symposium. You may participate in
person, online, or via video essay. The opening keynote speaker will be
Prof. Dr. Erik Knudsen, an academic and filmmaker from the University of
Central Lancashire. We will announce another invited speaker at a later
date and would also like to note that there will be invited speakers
from the film industry.
Rather than waiting for the submission deadline to pass, we will forward
abstracts to you—our reviewers—as soon as they are received. Having a
large scientific committee offers the advantage of keeping the number of
abstracts assigned to each reviewer to a minimum. You will be notified
separately once a paper review assignment has been assigned to you.
Our symposium will span three days; sessions and the schedules for our
invited speakers will be distributed across April 28 and 29, 2027. On
April 30, 2027, we will organize a technical nature and photography
excursion as part of the symposium; this trip is included in the
symposium fee.
To submit a paper, please click the "Submit Abstract" link on our
website and complete your application via the Google Form that appears.
(For those wishing to participate solely with a video essay, information
is available in the relevant tab on our site; such works should not be
submitted via the form but emailed to (rodostocinema /at/ nku.edu.tr)
<mailto:(rodostocinema /at/ nku.edu.tr)>).
Transportation options to Tekirdağ and our campus are as follows:
Tekirdağ is a coastal city located 2–2.5 hours by road from Istanbul,
1.5 hours from the Greek border, and 2.5 hours from the Bulgarian
border. Upon arriving in Istanbul Airport (IST) by air, you can travel
directly to the Değirmenaltı district of Tekirdağ—where the campus is
located—by taking the "İstanbul Seyahat Airport" buses; the boarding
point is located just past the Havaist shuttle stop, one floor below the
arrivals level at Istanbul Airport (IST). For the most convenient
transportation from Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW) and the Anatolian Side
of Istanbul, you can take the Sabiha Gökçen-Kadıköy metro line to its
final stop at the Kadıköy pier and then use the "Yolunda Turizm" buses
bound for Tekirdağ to reach the campus entrance directly. Additionally,
direct bus services to Tekirdağ are available from the Esenler and
Alibeyköy bus terminals in Istanbul.
Regarding accommodation, we are currently working on options to offer 1-
or 2-night packages in the coming months for academics whose papers have
been accepted and who will be attending the symposium. We will continue
to share the latest information on this matter via our website.
