[Commlist] New Edited Collection Published: Illuminating Netflix's Dark - A Critical Companion to the German Television Series

Sat Oct 03 13:49:20 GMT 2026

Roy Hanney is pleased to announce the publication of Illuminating Netflix’s Dark: A Critical Companion to the German Television Series, co-edited by Roy Hanney and Stuart Joy and published by Palgrave Macmillan.

The collection brings together perspectives from screen studies, philosophy and cultural theory to explore Dark’s complex storytelling, temporal structures and cultural significance. Chapters examine trauma, grief, memory, myth, identity and the uncanny, alongside the series’ engagement with German history, nuclear futures, aesthetics and authorship.

We hope it will interest colleagues researching and teaching television, science fiction, narrative complexity and the relationships between time, memory and screen cultures.
