SESSION CALL:

ART, DESIGN & MEDIA: Teaching, Research and Creative Practice
Part of the art and technologies strands of the conference ‘Understanding the Modern Academy - From Educational Histories to AI Futures’

A FOCUS ON PEDAGOGY 2027

OXFORD, UK

https://amps-research.com/oxford-art-design-media/

Teaching and research in art, design and media are increasingly difficult to separate. Studios become sites of investigation; creative projects generate new forms of knowledge; and the methods developed through teaching can inform professional practice, community engagement and published research.

This call invites educators, researchers, artists and designers to examine how these relationships are changing. How are artificial intelligence, digital media and emerging technologies reshaping creative education? What happens when experimentation, collaboration and reflection become both pedagogical methods and research practices? How can established approaches to studio teaching, visual analysis, critique and making be adapted without losing their disciplinary value?

We welcome contributions from fine art, design, media and communication studies, film, fashion, graphic and product design, and related creative fields. Topics may include practice-based and participatory research; interdisciplinary teaching; innovative assessment and critique; digital and hybrid studios; student support and accessibility; partnerships with communities and industry; arts education funding; and approaches that connect teaching to professional and public contexts.

Part of FOCUS ON PEDAGOGY SERIES, this strand asks how art, design and media can contribute to wider discussions about the future of teaching, scholarship and knowledge production—from longstanding educational traditions to emerging AI research futures.
