[Commlist] 2026 Cambridge Cultural Heritage Data School

Thu Oct 23 08:35:48 GMT 2025

The Cultural Heritage Data School (CHDS), taking place at the University of Cambridge between 13 – 17 April 2026, is now open for applications! Read the full announcement on the CDH website: https://www.cdh.cam.ac.uk/about/news/chds-2026/

The CHDS brings together participants from academia and the wider Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums and Arts (GLAMA) sectors to critically explore a range of methods and practices used to create, visualise and analyse digital archives and collections and engage audiences with them.

The theme of the April 2026 is 'Critically Engaging Audiences with Cultural Heritage Data' and the curriculum will be structured around an array of experience design approaches, including prototyping digital and analogue games; interactive performance; co-design workshops; Worldbuilding in 3D with the industry standard software, Blender, as well as with recycled materials and found objects to create interactive stories about cultural heritage data.

We will also encounter soundscapes and walks, podcasts and audio description, augmented reality and photogrammetry. We will approach technologies and practices critically, investigating their creative potential as well as acknowledging hype cycles, social and environmental implications.

Applications are open on a rolling basis. The online application portal will remain open until places are filled and so we therefore encourage early application. The Early Bird rate offer ends on 23 November 2025 and the final closing date is 13 January 2026.
