Artists as Adaptors: forms of adaptation in practice research

ResearchWorks at Guildhall School of Music & Drama is pleased to host
Artists as Adaptors, a day-long symposium for artists in research
contexts to explore different facets of adaptation in their work.
A wide range of practices are represented, including film, literature,
visual art, choreography, composition, and piano performance. Topics
covered include found materials, ekphrasis, memoir, Ballardian
landscapes, ecopoetics, narrative, queer theory, and improvisation.
Papers, performances, film viewings, and workshops will be delivered by
Emily Orley, Conor Wilson, Clare Harvey, Aristotelis Maragkos, Dabanjali
Biswas, Amanda Douge, Matthew Kaner, Ed Rice, and Bobby Mitchell.
In the afternoon, the composer David Fennessy will deliver the keynote
talk on his epic and visionary piece Conquest of the Useless for
mezzo-soprano, actor, orchestra & electronics, inspired by Werner
Herzog's memoir Conquest of the Useless, Reflections from the making of
Fitzcarraldo.
