[Commlist] Call for creative practice-as-research submissions to the Journal of Media, War & Conflict
Wed Oct 16 20:50:39 GMT 2024
Piotr Cieplak is writing to share the news that the SAGE journal /Media,
War and Conflict <https://journals.sagepub.com/home/mwc> / is now
accepting creative practice submissions in the form of video essays and
original short films for publication.
/Media, War & Conflict /is a major international, peer-reviewed journal
that maps the shifting arena of war and conflict in media environments
and ecologies. It explores cultural, political, social and technological
transformations in the conduct, outcome and consequences of intensively
mediated war. The editors are looking for innovative work that
contributes to existing debates and identifies emerging challenges in
the convergence of media, war and conflict.
The journal is now accepting practice-as-research (including creative
practice) submissions for publication. This is in recognition of the
growing importance of this methodology in the field of the study of the
intersection of media, war and conflict, and the editorial team’s
commitment to supporting the development of new epistemologies and forms
of knowledge generation. All submissions should be marked by a
demonstrable contribution to the current theoretical debates in the
field and clear relevance to one or more of the journal’s core themes.
Formally, submissions should normally fall into one of the following
categories (but if your submission doesn’t quite fit one of the
descriptions below, feel free to get in touch to discuss options):
* Original Short Films – up to 40 minutes with an accompanying
research statement (1,000-2,000 words).
* Video essays – up to 15 minutes presented as a time-based medium
(e.g. film or narrated powerpoint) with an accompanying research
statement (1,000-2,000 words).
You can find the full submission guidance (including the peer-review
protocol and guidance on what should be included in the research
statement) here
