[Commlist] CFP-Brian De Palma Conference

Julie Assouly is pleased to announce that an international conference on the cinema of Brian De Palma will be held on 5 and 6 June 2025 at the Université Paul Valéry in Montpellier, France, in collaboration with the Université d'Artois, the Université Picardie Jules Verne and the Institut Universitaire de France, to mark the director's 85th birthday.

"Brian De Palma: the politics of images" will welcome researchers wishing to address the following areas (the list is not exhaustive):

- Analysis of  Brian De Palma's political’ films and/or ‘political analyses’ of Brian De Palma's films - New ideological and political approaches to his work (feminist, intersectional, queer, etc.) - Analysis of the relationship between audiovisual images, politics and the writing of history - The critical, ideological and political implications of De Palma's intertextuality, reflexivity and metafiction - The ideological and political implications of De Palma's relationship to genres (thriller, action, fantasy, war, comedy, etc.) - The relationship with the other arts, intermediality in De Palma's work and the political place reserved for cinema.
