The Institute of Communication, Culture, Information and Technology <https://www.utm.utoronto.ca/iccit/> (ICCIT) at the University of Toronto Mississauga invites applications for a full-time tenure stream appointment in the area of critical marketing/advertising studies and digital culture at the rank of Assistant Professor. The expected start date for this position will be July 1, 2024, or shortly thereafter.

Candidates must hold a PhD in history, American studies, media studies, communications, or a related discipline/field by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter.  Candidates must show excellence in research as demonstrated by an active research program and the proven willingness to attract external research funding and/or research awards; publications in top-tier peer reviewed journals within the above-mentioned fields; and strong recommendations from referees of international standing.

We are seeking a scholar who has demonstrated a program of research focusing on critical approaches to marketing and advertising that centers feminist analysis in the historical development of these industries in North America. Candidates’ areas of study and approaches should include critical archival research, digital humanities tools and methods, and the application of feminist, social, and cultural analysis to the history of twentieth-century market segmentation strategies. We especially welcome applications from candidates with a demonstrated record of research/knowledge mobilization in the form of public-facing writing.

The successful candidate must have an exceptional record of excellence in teaching and pedagogical inquiry, including experience teaching and coordinating large first- and second-year courses. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a combination of critical and applied courses in management and marketing within ICCIT’s Digital Enterprise Management program <https://www.utm.utoronto.ca/iccit/programs/digital-enterprise-management-dem>.  The successful candidate will be affiliated with the University of Toronto Mississauga and will have their graduate home at the Institute for Management & Innovation (IMI). <https://www.utm.utoronto.ca/imi/>

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments and awards, publications in the scholarship of teaching and learning, and the teaching dossier, which should include a strong statement of teaching philosophy, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations or other evidence of pedagogical excellence.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The ICCIT at the University of Toronto Mississauga houses four interdisciplinary undergraduate programs that offer students a wide range of approaches to media communication and technological innovation. Students in our programs go on to graduate school in history, social sciences, communication, design, and media studies; they join the workforce as entrepreneurs, innovators and designers, journalists, media specialists, and educators.
